Youngest Chess Champion

Indian chess prodigy Gukesh Dommaraju, at just 18, has become the youngest undisputed World Chess Champion, defeating Ding Liren in a thrilling 7½–6½ match in the 2024 championship. The title was previously held by Garry Kasparov, who won at the age of 22. Dommaraju’s victory adds to his incredible year, where he made history as the youngest-ever winner of the Candidates Tournament and led India to its first team gold at the Chess Olympiad. Gukesh’s meteoric rise has sparked nationwide pride, with fans, leaders, and the sports world cheering him on. Dommaraju’s supporters say that the teen is not just playing chess—he’s rewriting the game’s history.
