When Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida last month, a highway patrol trooper named Orlando Morales came across a dog who had been abandoned, left tied to a post in rising flood waters. Morales jumped out of his patrol vehicle to save the 5-year-old bull terrier, and worked with the Leon County Animal Shelter to get him placed with a foster family. The dog was renamed Trooper in Morales’ honor, and his story took the internet by storm. On his first day off after the hurricane, Morales drove four hours to visit Trooper in his foster home. He was thrilled to see that Trooper is healthy and happy, and learned that over 500 people have reached out saying they want to adopt him. Trooper’s previous owner was charged with aggravated animal cruelty and could face prison time for his negligence. Thankfully, Trooper can leave his traumatic past behind as he now has a new, safe place to call home while he awaits adoption.
