The Kenyan government created a tree planting holiday to help the country reach their goal of planting 15 billion trees in the next decade. Each Kenyan is encouraged to plant two seedlings, which would lead to 100 million trees being planted in a single day. 150 million seedlings will be available for the public to pick up for free from forest agency centers. The tree planting holiday is one of Kenya’s many efforts to combat climate change and promote eco-friendly living. Tree planting will be monitored through an app called Jaza Miti, which allows individuals to record species and location information about the seedlings they plant. Over two million Kenyans have registered for the app so far, and the government is confident that the new holiday will be a big step in reaching their tree planting goal.
