Claudene Wilson has been employed as a custodian and bus driver at an elementary school in the small town of Swedeborg, Missouri for over 30 years. The kindergarten-8th grade school teaches only 40 students, and Wilson has formed personal relationships with every student that has come through the school’s doors. The 64-year-old made the difficult decision to retire this year, and students and teachers knew they had to do something special to honor Wilson’s ongoing commitment to the school. The school board voted unanimously to rename the building after her, changing it to The Claudene Wilson Learning Center. Despite not being there everyday to greet students, assist teachers, and converse with parents, Wilson’s presence will still be felt by all at the elementary school.
