The Nature Conservancy recently announced their purchase of 8,000 acres of land in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta region of Alabama, which was dubbed by environmentalists as “America’s Amazon”. The Mobile-Tensaw Delta is where the banks of the Tombigbee and Alabama rivers combine, creating a system of waterways full of marine life that flows to Mobile Bay. The Nature Conservancy plans to make part of the land accessible to the public in an effort to spread awareness about the remarkable ecology of the region and the importance of protecting it. The historic $18.2 million deal, which was partially funded by the clothing brand Patagonia, will protect the biodiverse area from development.
