Portrait Series Honors Health Workers

Renowned photographer and director JJ Keith released a new series of portraits that celebrate migrant workers in the UK’s healthcare system. “Open Britain: Portrait of a Diverse Nation” was created in collaboration with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and features 23 NHS workers who are all first-generation migrants. Keith’s work brings the stories of these healthcare heroes to light, showing that their diversity, cultural empathy, and compassion are critical to the success of the NHS. The workers in the collection include a midwife from Sierra Leone, a pathologist from Pakistan, a trauma surgeon from Nigeria, a pharmacist from Iraq, a nurse from Jamaica, and more. Each portrait includes a solo image and a short written profile of the featured individual, explaining the journey from leaving their home country to working in the NHS.
