Pen Pals Meet 25 Years Later

Lamar Johnson was recently released from prison after being wrongfully convicted in 1995 for a fatal shooting. Over the course of his time in prison, Johnson was corresponding with a pen pal who he became connected with through a church. Ginny Schrappen was touched by Johnson’s story and wanted to provide companionship to him while serving his sentence, and the pair forged an unlikely friendship. After 25 years of being pen pals, Johnson and Schrappen were able to meet in person for the first time when Johnson’s conviction was overturned. The duo was thrilled to see each other and look forward to continuing their friendship without the barrier of prison between them.
