Paid Grandparent Leave

Sweden has become the first country to pass legislation allowing grandparents to take parental leave. The policy grants parents the ability to transfer part of their allotted 16 months of parental leave to grandparents, which can lessen the burden of childcare costs. Couples can transfer up to three months of parental care to grandparents, and single parents can transfer up to six months. The bill helps parents who are in their prime income-earning years to return to work sooner and strengthens family bonds. Sweden was the first country to offer paid parental leave benefits to fathers starting in 1974, and they are once again on the forefront of giving parents and families the support they need to build better futures.
