A special spacesuit is in the works as NASA prepares for the Artemis III mission, which will be the first time humans step foot on the moon since 1972. Luxury fashion house Prada teamed up with Axiom Space on the concept and recently unveiled their design plans at the International Astronautical Congress in Milan. The spacesuit will be made from a white material that protects astronauts from dangerous temperatures and lunar dust and features gray patches and red stripes. Prada used their design and production expertise to craft a product that is both technologically sound and aesthetically pleasing. The Prada team used their signature open seams sewing technique to create a flexible design that can withstand challenging environments. The spacesuit will be tested in pressurized simulations, underwater, and in various other strenuous environments to ensure its durability. This unique spacesuit collaboration opens the doors for other unexpected partnership opportunities when it comes to the future of space exploration. The Artemis III mission is currently scheduled to launch in fall 2026, giving Prada and Axiom ample time to finalize their prototype.
