18-year-old Nima Rinji Sherpa, a Nepalese mountaineer, has become the youngest climber to summit the highest 14 peaks on the planet. The record was previously held by Mingma Gyabu Sherpa, who achieved it at age 30. The teenager ascended all 14 mountains over the course of 740 days, completing the journey at Mount Shishapangma in Tibet. The other mountains include Everest, K2, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Nanga Parbat, Annapurna I, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, and Broad Peak. Nima Rinji was accompanied by his climbing partner Pasang Nurbu Sherpa on each of his treks, and the duo is hoping to redefine sherpa culture in Nepal. Instead of being support climbers and guides for others, Nima Rinji is proving that sherpas can be top-tier, accomplished athletes in their own right.
