National Cat Award Winner

The “Cat of the Year” award was officially given to Marley— a seven-year-old black and white cat who spends his days comforting trafficking victims at a safe house in London. The Caritas Bakhita House is home to 11 women from 11 countries around the world who have experienced exploitation, slavery, and human trafficking. Marley is an empathetic companion for the women living in the home, and he helps give residents comfort as they navigate their trauma. The fluffy cat can be found snuggling up next to women in art therapy sessions, sitting next to them at dinner, and being a sounding board for those who may not be comfortable talking about their past with other humans. Marley is a rescue cat who came from a difficult background on the streets of London, and those at the Caritas Bakhita House believe he understands their trauma and is the reason the facility feels like a true home. The “Cat of the Year” award was decided by a panel of celebrity judges, and he was honored in a national ceremony this month.
