NASA has a new telescope in the works that is designed to spot exoplanets and rogue planets across the universe. The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope will launch between October 2026 and May 2027 and has the potential to locate hundreds of planets that are a similar size to Earth. Researching these rogue planets, as well as thousands of smaller exoplanets, will give astronomers a deeper understanding of the formation and evolution of planetary systems. In comparison to the Hubble Space Telescope, the Roman Telescope has a larger field of view, the ability to create more detailed images, and can observe more of the sky in less time. It’s NASA’s hope that the Roman Telescope will be the next step towards finding life outside our solar system by providing in-depth access to previously undiscovered corners of the universe.
