When Brian Standefer was about 10 years old, he and a few friends wrote a message in a bottle and set it free on a Texas beach. 27 years later, a volunteer came across the bottle while cleaning up trash in Highland Bayou Park. The message inside was signed by young Brian, and the volunteer was able to track him down on Facebook to return the bottle to its rightful owner. Standefer was shocked that the bottle had been found only a few miles from where he had originally dropped it in the water. The surprise had a special meaning for Standefer. One of his friends, Travis, who had signed the message in a bottle, recently died. The bottle is now a symbol of their enduring friendship and reminds Standefer of their fun childhood memories.
