What is SeedMoney’s mission?
SeedMoney assists food, farm, and garden projects by offering garden grants and free assistance with online fundraising and garden planning. So far, we’ve planted over 3,200 gardens and awarded over $3,000,000 in funding, reaching almost a million people in the process. Our projects include community gardens, community farms, school gardens, and food banks gardens, to name a few. All of our projects must have an edible component to them, they must be publicly available, and they must be proposed by nonprofit causes.
Why is investing in food gardens important?
Gardens have the power to nourish our bodies, create more equality, grow more resilient communities, and cool our warming planet. Growing some of our own food in our backyard is a simple yet effective way of taking power over our health and well-being while also working for the greater good. Gardens can increase access to healthy foods while reducing food budgets, encourage healthy eating habits, can be a powerful educational tool, and help decrease greenhouse gas emissions. Growing public gardens leads to growing more sustainable, healthy, and better-connected communities.
What grants does SeedMoney offer?
Our programs are available to any garden project located anywhere in the world, and we have three types of grants available. SeedMoney runs an annual crowdfunding program, where participating projects use our free tools to compete for grants. In Challenge Grants, projects keep 100% of what they raise plus any grant funds that they win, which range from $100 to $1,000. The more a project raises through crowdfunding, the larger the grant it qualifies for. Our Geographic Interest Grants of $100-300 are for projects located in Maine or the Global South and don’t have any crowdfunding requirements. Our Garden Planning Grants are year-long subscriptions to our interactive and user-friendly online garden planning platform, where users can draw out vegetable beds and perfect the layout of plants for their specific garden.
Outside of grants, what support do you provide?
In addition to our grants, we offer our partners training in online outreach, access to user-friendly fundraising technology, cutting-edge garden planning software. In doing so, we enable communities and projects in need to become more self-reliant in terms of their food and their funding. Following the guidelines from our growing strategies help communities keep their gardens safe, healthy, and continually growing produce. With all of our resources, SeedMoney has helped garden projects in all 50 states and 68 countries around the world raise the funds and access the services they need to accomplish their mission.
