What is the mission of Keepers of the Wild?
Keepers of the Wild is dedicated to protecting abused, neglected, abandoned, and retired captive wildlife, providing the best standard of care, and helping enforce humane treatment of all animals through education and public awareness. We seek to alleviate all animals’ suffering and strive to help eliminate the use of wild animals as pets and their exploitation in show business. The preservation and protection of wildlife and the environment are paramount to our goals.
What are your long term goals?
We hope to set new standards for the ethical treatment of exotic and wild animals through public education and legislative measures, educate the public about exotic and wild animals, and advocate for the protection of animals from illegal breeding and pet trades that perpetuate an endless cycle of exploitation and creation of surplus animals. We are committed to providing our animals with the best possible care while advocating for wildlife in every way possible.
Can you tell me about your park and animals?
Our nature park has grown into a lush 175-acre home to over 140 rescued wild animals in Valentine, Arizona. Our residents include cougars, bobcats, coyotes, bears, tigers, leopards, lions, wolves, birds, and more. We work on a global scale to rescue captive wildlife in need, and each animal that arrives at our sanctuary is either surrendered by a private owner or is legally confiscated and placed with us by a court. All our residents reside in large natural outdoor habitats where they have access to shaded den areas and have room to roam, play, eat, and sleep as they please. The animals receive top nutrition and medical care and enjoy daily enrichment activities.
How can individuals get involved in your work?
You can join our animal sponsorship program to help provide food, medical care, and enriching facilities for your chosen animal. Whether you have a soft spot for primates swinging through the trees or adorable prairie dogs popping in and out of their burrows, there’s a furry friend waiting for your help. Our Adopt-A-Fox program is an unparalleled chance to form an enduring connection with one of our charming foxes at the sanctuary. You can name a fox and leave an imprint on their journey with us. We have a Wildlife Toy Box Wishlist which is the perfect addition to any big cat or bear’s playtime routine, as well as an Amazon Wishlist full of vital supplies for our animals.
