Girl Scout Troop 40349 participates in activities that all other troops do, but with a twist: they do it all underwater. The Central Texas based group, called The Scuba Scouts, teaches girls ages 12-17 to become certified scuba divers. Along the way, they learn about environmentalism and conservation to combat climate change. The Scuba Scouts are committed to protecting aquatic life and waterways in Texas, and the girls are making waves in the male dominated scuba community. Troop members have made their community more eco-friendly by working with restaurants to utilize biodegradable straws, spreading awareness about reef-safe sunscreen options, and organizing beach clean-up programs.
