Making Disney Content Accessible

Teenager Mariella Satow has been walking dogs around her neighborhood to fund the development of a Google Chrome extension. Her creation is called SignUp and it provides on-screen ASL signing for Disney+ movies. Written closed captioning is often not descriptive enough for the deaf community to get the full experience of watching tv or films, but ASL captioning is almost impossible to find. Satow’s extension is free to download and allows deaf individuals to enjoy Disney classics like Frozen, Hamilton, and Luca. SignUp has been downloaded thousands of times so far and Satow is already planning to expand the extension’s scope to include Netflix titles.
