California has recently introduced several new bills that are tackling important social issues. Senate Bill 1162 is attempting to close the pay gap by requiring large companies to report how much they pay people based on gender and ethnicity. Companies will also be required to disclose salary ranges on job postings to prevent employers from discriminating based on gender or race. Additionally, the “Dog and Cat Bill of Rights” would give pets freedom from abuse, the right to nutritious food, the right to be spayed or neutered, and much more. The bill will be required to be posted in all animal rescue centers to inform potential adopters about the requirements of pet ownership. Animal rights advocates, rescue shelters, and pet lovers around the state are supporting the bill’s codification.
