95-year-old Tom Street is gearing up to play the trombone at a local celebration for King Charles’ coronation alongside the Heage Silver Band. Street joined the band at the age of 13, making him the longest serving brass band player in the world. The record holder has rarely missed a rehearsal during his 82 years in the band, and has no plans to stop performing despite his age. Street played the trombone with the Heage Silver Band at his town’s celebration for Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953, and he will now do the same to honor King Charles. Street’s father and five brothers, who have all passed away, were members of the band as well, making it a family tradition. The coronation concert will be a special one for Street, since his 21-year-old grandson Louis will be playing the trumpet beside him.
