Heart Safety Bill

The U.S. Senate has unanimously passed the Cardiomyopathy Health Education, Awareness, Research and Training in Schools Act, a bipartisan bill championed by Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin. The legislation provides funding for elementary and secondary schools to purchase automated external defibrillators, supports CPR and AED training in schools, and offers resources for schools to develop cardiac emergency response plans. Damar Hamlin, who suffered cardiac arrest during a game in January 2023 and was saved by prompt medical intervention, has since advocated for increased accessibility to lifesaving medical equipment and training in schools. This bill allows for young athletes to continue playing sports with the peace of mind that medical care is available to them should they need it.
