Graduating at 90

It was 1951 when Joyce Viola DeFauw began her elementary education studies at Northern Illinois University. Three years later, DeFauw dropped out of college to start a family with her husband. Though DeFauw has been quite busy over the years as a mother to nine kids, grandmother to 17, and great-grandmother to 26, she never forgot about her education and always wanted to get her degree. In 2019, she decided to re-enroll at NIU to take online classes towards her degree. At the end of this semester, DeFauw finally walked across the graduation stage at the age of 90, donning a cap that read “Super Senior ‘22”. Congratulations, Joyce!
