When Jenelle Marie was shopping in the U.S. Gold and Pawn Shop in Manchester, New Hampshire, she struck up a conversation with an elderly man selling jewelry at the store. Donald explained that he was struggling to pay his bills as his wife was recently diagnosed with dementia and their rent had been increased. As the medical bills added up, the 90-year-old veteran was left with no choice but to start selling their beloved family jewelry in the pawn shop. Moved by his heartwarming story, Marie gave Donald $1,000 from her own savings and launched a GoFundMe page to garner additional funds. The fundraiser has now raised about $400,000 for the veteran, who served over 25 years in the Air Force, and his wife. Thanks to Marie’s kind gesture, Donald can celebrate his 91st birthday next week with no financial worries on his mind.
