Alan Ross, a professor at UC Berkeley, has started a new program that rewards acts of kindness. Community members nominate someone who has gone above and beyond to show kindness to others. Once a month, people vote on the nominations to choose a winner. Recipients of the “Chris Kindness Award” receive $1,000 and recognition for their kind deeds. The award is named after Ross’ favorite childhood teacher, who instilled the power of kindness in Ross. The “Chris Kindness Award” is currently focused on Berkeley residents, but Ross hopes that the idea will expand to other areas of the country to encourage more people to be kind.
