First Lawyer With Down Syndrome

Ana Victoria Espino De Santiago has made history by becoming the world’s first lawyer with Down syndrome. The 25-year-old graduated with her law degree from the university in her hometown of Zacatecas in Mexico and is looking to pursue a career as a disability rights lawyer or government representative. Espino De Santiago always dreamed of having a legal career, but faced many obstacles as she navigated an educational system that paid little attention to students with disabilities. A professor at the university stepped up to work with the aspiring lawyer and spent five years helping her learn material, study for exams, and prepare for a life in the legal field. Espino De Santiago hopes her achievement will serve as a testament to the fact that those with disabilities deserve a seat at the table, no matter how challenging the road to get there may be.
