Electric Vehicles Take Over Norway

After decades of consistent policy and infrastructure investment, Norway now leads the world in electric vehicle adoption, with 89% of new cars sold in the last year being electric. Incentives such as tax exemptions, free parking, discounted tolls, and access to bus lanes have made EVs financially appealing, while high taxes on fossil fuel vehicles have deterred their purchase. Norway’s vast charging network, supported by renewable hydroelectric energy, makes EV ownership practical, even in cold conditions. Norway aims to be the first country to have all new cars sold be zero-emission by the end 2025, a goal that is within reach. Norway's success highlights the impact of long-term policies and infrastructure investment, offering a model for other nations to accelerate their EV transitions.
