Linda Mar Beach in San Francisco recently hosted the 2022 World Dog Surfing Championship, where pups of all breeds and ages hit the water to compete. The dogs are separated into competition groups based on their size. Dogs are required to wear life jackets and the owner is permitted to give their pet a push in the water to get their ride started. 11 judges take note of each dog’s technique, wave size, length of ride, and any special tricks. There is also a tandem category where owners and their dogs can ride on a surfboard together. Only a few skillful pups got to take home trophies, including Faith, a 10-year-old pit bull rescue who took home the title of World Dog Surfing Champion in the large dog category.
