Clothing for Abuse Survivors

ALICAS, a UK-based charity founded by domestic violence survivor Rachael Bews, is addressing the clothing crisis for women leaving abusive situations. Many survivors have few belongings and often receive donations of clothes that are in poor condition, which can further damage their self-esteem. Bews was inspired by a woman named Ali who emphasized the importance of a good coat and shoes in rebuilding her life. The charity has launched a project that provides capsule wardrobes tailored to each woman's needs, using secondhand or donated clothes, and even diverts waste from landfills. ALICAS has already helped hundreds of women and is calling on fashion brands to support its mission and help reduce clothing waste.
