Cleaning Impact of Trees

A new USC study found that trees in Los Angeles do a lot more to clean the air than we thought. Using sensors across central L.A., researchers discovered that trees can absorb up to 60% of carbon dioxide during the day—about 30% over a full day. This means even in less green areas, trees are quietly helping fight air pollution. The lead scientist said the results were surprising and show how important it is to protect and plant more trees in cities. Even better, this research shows that the trees we already have are working hard for us every day—offering a hopeful, natural solution right in our neighborhoods. Still, scientists note that while trees help, we also need to cut emissions at the source to create longterm change.
