Recent studies indicate that listening to birds singing can improve mental health and wellbeing. Though there is ample research about the connection between time in nature and mental health, there are fewer studies on the specific elements of nature that are responsible for bringing us feelings of calmness and clarity. Birds apparently have healing powers, as people most often have positive, happy associations with the sound of their songs. Listening to bird songs can alleviate anxiety and paranoia, improve concentration, decrease mental fatigue, and is especially beneficial for those who struggle with depression. Research shows that bird songs are effective in treating mental health woes whether people listen out in nature or at home on headphones, and only a few minutes of listening a day are necessary to see results.
