After the United States' decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement for a second time under President Donald Trump, billionaire Michael Bloomberg pledged to fund the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This commitment ensures that the UNFCCC will remain fully funded despite the loss of U.S. contributions, which typically account for around 21% of the budget. Bloomberg, a former New York City mayor and special envoy on climate change, announced this move last month. He reiterated his dedication to helping the U.S. meet its climate commitments through Bloomberg Philanthropies, as well as by collaborating with states, cities, and companies to track progress in the fight against climate change. Bloomberg emphasized the importance of continuing the push for clean energy and combating the devastating effects of climate-fueled disasters.
