Artist and cancer survivor Colleen Wall is transforming hospital rooms at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, New York, by painting murals that provide patients with serene “window views” of nature. Diagnosed with cancer in 1995 while four months pregnant, Wall’s personal experience inspired her to use art to uplift others facing similar battles. When a patient at the center remarked to Wall that they couldn’t tell what the weather was outside because their window faced a drab building next door, Wall realized that she could use her talents to create nature murals. The paintings offer patients an imaginative escape from the sterile hospital environment, aiming to enhance their emotional well-being during treatment.
