AI Connects Kids to Mentors

A program called Eldera is using artificial intelligence to connect baby boomers with kids and young adults seeking mentorship. An algorithm pairs adults over the age of 60 with an individual between the ages of 5-18 for regularly scheduled video chats. The program was designed to combat loneliness, encourage curiosity, and spark friendships that cross generational boundaries. Eldera has allowed for a 75-year-old to befriend a first grader over their shared love of art, a 69-year-old retiree to teach stress management tips to a high schooler applying to college, and a 79-year-old teacher to chat with a 6-year-old about life goals. Partners have shared personal stories, read books together, and created long-lasting connections that leave both parties feeling inspired and seen.
