Nila Ibrahimi, a 17-year-old Afghan refugee, won the International Children’s Peace Prize for her courageous advocacy for Afghan girls' rights under oppressive Taliban rule. The award has previously been given to activists Greta Thunberg and Malala Yousafzai. Ibrahimi gained global attention for her viral “IAmMySong” campaign, which overturned a ban on schoolgirls being able to sing in public. Worried for her safety after becoming a public figure, she ultimately fled Afghanistan after the Taliban seized power in 2021. Now based in Canada, Ibrahimi co-founded "Her Story," a platform amplifying Afghan girls' voices, and continues to fight for education and freedom for those left behind under severe restrictions against women.
