Anna Kendrick made her directorial debut with the new Netflix hit Woman of the Hour, which is based on the story of serial killer Rodney Alcala. Kendrick, who also stars in the film, wanted the movie to focus on the lives of Alcala’s victims instead of glorifying him. The actress plays the role of Sheryl Bradshaw, who meets Alcala on the set of a live television show called The Dating Game, as she did in real life as well. After delving into the lives of Alcala’s victims, Kendrick was inspired to give back to assault survivors. She felt uncomfortable profiting off the tragic stories of these women, and decided to donate all her income from Woman of the Hour to RAINN and the National Center for Victims of Crime— both of which offer services and support to assault victims.
